Free trial program allows customers to test an advanced nuclease

Bringing two-dimensional mass spectrometry to the benchtop
Researchers at the University of Warwick (UK) and spin-out company Verdel Instruments (Oxford, UK) have successfully demonstrated two-dimensional mass spectrometry (2DMS) on a benchtop instrument, making this powerful technique practical and affordable for everyday laboratory use.
Modern mass spectrometry workflows are built to reduce complexity before measurement: chromatography separates, acquisition methods filter, processing pipelines simplify. These steps are essential, but they come at a cost; information is lost, often without the analyst knowing what’s missing.
In their paper, published in Analytical Chemistry, the team provides the first demonstration of 2DMS on a commercially available quadrupole time-of-flight instrument, using an upgrade kit. They call this Q-2DMS and the paper shows how it can be used to obtain high-resolution tandem mass spectrometry data from complex mixtures without the need for chromatographic separation or mass filtering.
A US$2.1 million grant for investigating cell responses
Cancer, arthritis and diabetes can develop when cells activate the wrong genes. Yet, those failures are remarkably rare. Every second of every day, trillions of cells correctly respond to environmental stress, keeping our bodies functional.
How cells achieve that extraordinary reliability is the focus of a new US$2.1 million National Institutes of Health (MD, USA) grant awarded to University of California, Riverside (CA, USA), synthetic biologist Sonali Chaturvedi. Specifically, the research will investigate how cells maintain stability despite needing to adapt quickly to changes and stress.
